Turtle Wax Headlight Lens Restorer Kit
My car is a 2001 Ford Escort. It’s been a real trooper for me, but after owning it for more than 10 years, I had to finally admit that the headlight lens situation was Not Acceptable, and actually not safe! Because of aging plastic and oxidation, my headlights were becoming increasingly ineffective at night. People generally look for the best wax for car to help with this, but I had forgotten to do so over the years, and now the impact was clear. The lights may be effective perhaps in Victorian London, but not so much in 2015.
To save money, I wanted to restore the lenses myself; although, for my next car I might consider getting some Xenons Online as they are supposed to have significantly better visibility, but for now I decided to get a lens cleaner and get to work. The ratings for this lens cleaning product were strong on Amazon.com. As you know, finding the perfect headlight cleaner is a difficult task in itself. Products make claims they simply don’t live up to. You end up going through 6 different cleaners until you find one that actually cleans your headlights. Luckily, this one lived up to expectations.
The instructions are easy to follow – although in tiny type on the box. Essentially, you first clean the lenses so that the surfaces can fully react to the treatment. Use painter’s tape to mask around the lenses to protect your car’s paint job. A Lens Clarifying Compound is then applied, followed by the option of using a series of fine scrubbing pads and Spray Lubricant to remove any further clouding or discoloration of your headlight lenses. You complete the process by sealing the lenses so that the restoration will last as long as possible.
I was very happy with the results! You’ll notice that there is still a little bit of clouding on the headlight, but that is from INSIDE the lens. If you know how to take off your car lenses, or if your mechanic can take them off for you, the Lens Clarifying Compound works quickly, and you should* have excellent results.
Something else I love about this product (other than seeing much better at night), is that there was plenty of Lens Clarifying Compound, and Spray Lubricant leftover. And certainly the fine scrubbing pads can be re-used. So if my car lenses start clouding up again, I’ll be ready to give them another treatment.
* Disclaimer: Remember, there are numerous car models / years, and the materials used in manufacturing car lenses differ and are always evolving. No one product is going to work perfectly for every car, and every consumer will not follow the directions appropriately. Therefore, results using this product will vary.
