Mixology Class at the Hard Rock Café

Rotating_Content_2014_2Do you know the origin of Vodka? How to make the perfect Martini? I don’t — nor do I care to take a look behind the scenes at the world of mixology, unless you’re talking about my beloved Gin, then I’m interested. However, I just learned at Hard Rock Café’s Shake It Up mixology class, that my favorite elixir was actually Vodka mixed with Juniper berries. Okay, I want to know more.

Justin Peniston shows the Exacto Pour at Hard Rock Café’s mixology class

At the Universal City Walk Hard Rock Café’s first Shake It Up mixology class, Will Orr and Justin Peniston revealed the genesis of our favorite spirits, gave us some tips and tricks of the barkeep, engaged our small group in a some skill-building exercises like pouring double shots and helped us make several drinks including the martini, margarita and hurricane. I’m surprised that I can recall the curriculum after the night of sampling each other’s cocktails, but I can tell you that it was a night of unique adult edutainment.

The class teaches how to learn to pour accurate shots by feel as you make a batch of your favorite cocktail. Hard Rock Café has spent a ton of resources in the past year to perfect their adult beverage offerings and their pros teach you how to make the tastiest ones. Additionally, I’ve learned that they also put a lot of effort to enhance the customers’ experience and to make service a number one priority, making it worth it to rediscover the Hard Rock Café if you haven’t been there in a while.

  2. this would be so fun. I would even really want to take a cooking class if I could find one here in Arizona 🙂

    • Hi Courtney,
You might try the Williams Sonoma nearest you. They even offer free technique classes! Good luck!
      Cheers, Lisa
    • Hi John,

They’re great. You would LOVE them! We have some basic knife skills lessons here on the site. Some cities are offering cooking classes for groups so you can gather your foodie friends and enjoy cooking together!

  3. Even though I do not personally drink, I think that it would be very informative to learn how to make great drinks, at least for guests.
    • Hi Reava,

I bet you’re right! When I prepare adult beverages, I always use the same ideas to make non-alcoholic drinks for the kids and guests who prefer not to imbibe.

    • Hi Mitzi,

These classes are given in person, but I’m sure you could find some great tutorials on line, too.

  4. I love watching Mixologists create magic!! It is truly a work of art, how they can mix the perfect drink while entertaining everyone!!! I love it!!
  5. Wow this brings back memories. I recall taking a mixology class in my college days, and then was working at a college bar, until someone accidentally set my angora sweater dress on fire with their cigarette! office work was fine for me after that!
    • Oh my gosh! I guess that would put me off, too. I once spilled a tray of 6 cokes on myself while helping out a waiter at a fancy restaurant where I was the hostess. Funny now, but it was a sticky, unsightly mess when it happened!
