Step inside the kitchen with me at LYFE in Culver City, California. My crew and I caught up with Chef Jeremy Bringardner for some cooking tips, recipes and the scoop on what’s cookin’ with this new fast casual dining establishment. I love great-tasting food, but I’m also conscious of healthful eating. It’s not always easy to find foods that your whole family will enjoy that also pack a wallop nutritionally. I’m seeing a trend in the restaurant business toward more great-tasting healthful foods, locally sourced and sustainably produced. I like it!

Still image of Kale from the interview video on California Living with Jeremy Bringardner for LYFE.Check out the Kale Banana Smoothie. I know. It sounds kind of awful if you’re not already into kale. You know it’s good for you, but really . . . do you have to drink it, too? In a word: YES! At least give it a try! This smoothie is kid friendly, fun and easy to make at home. You won’t really even know that you’ve had your kale, but each serving gives you a full cup of this nutritional power house.

Here’s the recipe:

In a blender, combine:

1 cup Kale

2/3 cup Frozen Banana Slices

1/4 cup Frozen Persian Cucumber Slices

3/4 cup Apple Juice

2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice (fresh)

1/2 inch Cube of Fresh Ginger

My first batch at home still had identifiable chunks of banana and kale, which was not as nice as the super smooth texture that Chef Jeremy served me. My next batch came out perfectly with just a little longer in the blender. I happen to love ginger, so I added a little extra to suit myself.

Here’s a link to some I found on Amazon: Crystal Vegan Butter Premium Ghee [No Cholesterol] (Crystal Vegan Butter – Yellow Butter Flavor, 2Kg [Net Weight: 1.6Kg (3.53 Lbs.)]) and here’s a link to a recipe so you can make your own, if you’re so inclined.

LYFE Kitchen is opening in Tarzana at 18700 Ventura Blvd. Tarzana, California 91356 on Tuesday, November 12th! You can join us for the sprout cutting at 10 am. This is their third location. The first store opened in Palo Alto with the Culver City store opening less than a year ago! Check their website frequently to find a location near you! LYFE Kitchens will be opening up in Chicago and West Hollywood, soon, with plans to bring these great foods to YOU, next!
