Encino Mom Trio – bios

Lisa Keating vocal

Lisa is happy to be back at the microphone. Bitten by the jazz bug in the cradle, this California native has performed for audiences from Japan to Mexico, taking a break from the stage after becoming a mom in 2001. Longing to integrate music and motherhood, Lisa started the California Lifestyle New Media Magazine, EncinoMom.com. where she regularly appears in the California Living episodes produced for the magazine.

David Edelstein piano

David is an accomplished bassist and jazz piano player whose musical career has spanned 3 decades. The list of pros who have tapped David for his talent reads like a who’s who of the music industry. From touring on bass with the legendary Buddy Rich Big Band at the tender age of 21 to playing on recordings and live concerts of Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, the Osmonds, Tom Jones, Gloria Trevi, Wayne Newton, Edie Gormé, Kenny Rankin, Peggy Lee, Harry James’ Orchestra, John Klemmer, Phil Upchurch, Ray Pizzi, Lee Ritenour, and Frank Strazzeri. This being LA, there have been, TV shows, commercials and movie scores, too – too numerous to mention.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies (Piano Performance) at California State University and a Master’s Degree in Music under his belt, David has trained with some of the premiere jazz piano talents in Los Angeles including Terry Trotter, Clare Fischer and Victor Feldman. Not just a great player, David can teach, too with a teaching studio in his home for adult jazz pianists and roles as a Teacher Associate in the Music Department at California State University Los Angeles as well as being the faculty jazz piano accompanist at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California.

Brenton Kossak bass

Music is the best. That is the only thing Brenton M. Kossak is really convinced about. After studying bass performance at California State University Northridge with Oscar Meza, Brenton has been making a living as a multi-instrumentalist throughout the greater Los Angeles area. When not playing jazz with wonderful local musicians, you can see him performing with the rock-and-roll-comedy troupe, Lost Moon Radio (www.lostmoonradio.com), or coaching young musicians at the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra (www.santamonicayouthorchestra.org).

Nate Laguzza drums

Nate is a versatile drummer known for his great pocket, big sound, and diverse knowledge of musical styles. After displaying an odd affinity for banging on things around the house, he picked up his first real pair of drum sticks at age 6 and hasn’t looked back since.

Having toured nationally and internationally, Nate has logged countless hours in the studio playing everything from jazz to country. He has 15 years of playing experience and holds a degree from Berklee College of Music, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Lucky for us, he currently resides in Los Angeles, CA where he continues to perform as a session and touring drummer.

Keep up with the band!
