Things To Bring To The Beach For Cooking Clams California Style
SUNBLOCK, wide brimmed hat, sunglasses
Paper towels
Wet wipes
Swiss army knife (with cork screw & bottle opener – if you don’t need it, someone else will! Bonus – make new friends)
Cloth napkins – so nice and unexpected.
Tablecloth – the picnic tables are huge, so bring a big one.
Lemons and or Limes
Garlic
Butter
Champagne or wine or beer or chicken broth
Fresh herbs – you can use them to decorate your table and chop up different combinations to add to your California style clams
Crusty French bread
Charcoal (we pack our charcoal chimney, too)
A lighter is best against the ocean breeze, but matches will work
We like real dishes and cutlery (afternoon breezes easily send paper products flying) don’t forget serving utensils – tongs are handy and a sharp knife
An oven mitt or hot pads are helpful for taking things off of the BBQ
This list includes everything you’ll need for bread, clams and beer at the beach. Add your favorite beverages, some fresh fruit, side dishes and dessert to complete your custom feast. If you think you might be having oysters, too here are a couple more items for your list:
Heavy gloves and or a small thick towel (for oyster shuckers)
Shucking tool (bring one from home or buy one from The Jolly Oyster – $5)
I’m adding pictures with links to some products on Amazon so you can see what I’m talking about. You probably already have these things at home, if you don’t you can order them here. We have also found that bringing an Easy Up and folding chairs is a good idea when entertaining a gang at the beach all day. Then we end up bringing towels, swimsuits, flip flops, boogie boards, beach balls, kites, and more. You can even reserve a special wheel chair that goes on the sand so grandpa can put his toes in the ocean. Lastly, bring some ice cubes to put in soft drinks or lemonade.
